Today We Will Know About Laws Regarding Eve teasing Punishment in Bangladesh. Eve teasing is One of of the most practicing social crime in Bangladesh. This eve teasing can happens at any ages but female students or school going girls are mostly becomes victims in Bangladesh. Girls educating in different school, college and universities are highly targeted by the eve teaser. But, Government has taken initiative to prevent this crime. and make awareness against eve teasing.
There is No Straight Law Regarding Eve teasing Punishment under Bangladeshi Law. According to Section 294 of penal code: Whoever, to the annoyance of others, (a) does any obscene act in any public place, or (b) sings, recites or utters any obscene songs, ballad or words, in or near any public place, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine, or with both.
And According to Section 509 of penal code: Whoever, intending to insult the modesty of any woman, utters any word, makes any sound or gesture, or exhibits any object, intending that such word or sound shall be heard, or that such gesture or object shall be seen, by such woman, or intrudes upon the privacy of such woman, shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.
Beside this 2 important section from penal code there are also some other laws regarding this eve teasing punishment. According to Section 75 and 76 of Dhaka Metropolitan Ordinance we have found some punishment regarding this eve teasing related crime. although this is not exactly regarding eve teasing but, to punish a eve teaser we also can use this ordinance.
Section 75 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance provides for imprisonment for up to three months or a fine of Taka 500 or both as punishment for indecent or disorderly conduct in the society. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance deals with eve teasing. Article 76 of this Ordinance states that if a person voluntarily and indecently displays his body in a street or in a public place or from there in a manner which may or may not be from inside a house or building, If a woman sees or voluntarily abuses or obstructs a woman on a street or in a public place or uses obscene language on a street or in a public place, insults or annoys a woman by making obscene sounds, gestures or comments, but that The person will be sentenced to imprisonment for a term up to 1 year or a fine of up to Taka 2,000 or both.
